Bandai-ya and Carddass

Bandai was founded by Naoharu Yamashina under the name Bandai-ya in Taitō, Tokyo, and started by importing and selling celluloid dolls, metal toys and swim rings. The name Bandai comes from the expression bandai fueki, meaning eternally unchanging, taken from a Chinese military classic. Carddass, Bandai's card vending machines, started in 1988 with cards from, among others, the anime Saint Seiya. The Union Arena card game arrived in 2023.
