The licences and the sports
In baseball, Topps has held MLB alone since 2010. The history of the licences in football and basketball is in the football guide and the basketball guide, and the F1 guide covers both the Formula 1 licence and Turbo Attax. The cards are under F1, football cards, baseball cards and basketball cards, and the guide to the card manufacturers goes through how Topps' series differ from other manufacturers'.
The chewing gum and Topps Chrome
Topps was founded by the brothers Abram, Ira, Philip and Joseph Shorin, and the name was meant to show that the company was tops – that is, the best – in its field. The company's first cards in 1950 were a series about the western hero Hopalong Cassidy, meant to get more people to buy the chewing gum. Topps Chrome first came out in 1996. Topps' Pokémon cards, pure trading cards without game rules, outsold the company's baseball cards for a few years from 1999. In October 2007 Topps was bought by Michael Eisner's company The Tornante Company and Madison Dearborn Partners. Match Attax started with the Premier League 2007/08.
