The company and the publishers
Pokémon is jointly owned by Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures through The Pokémon Company, founded in 1998. In Japan, Media Factory published the cards until The Pokémon Company took over publishing in 2000. Publishing in English is covered era by era in the set guide.
Series and special sets
A new main set arrives roughly once a quarter, with smaller special sets in between, and the series with their sets are listed in the set guide. Buying sealed boxes from finished series is covered in the guide to old boxes.
English, Japanese and Korean editions
Japanese and Korean Pokémon cards have their own sections: Japanese editions and Korean editions. The guide to English and Japanese cards compares what sets the editions apart, from the sets to the card dimensions.
The products in a set
A main set is released as single booster packs, as displays and as Elite Trainer Box. What bundles, tins and collections contain is covered in the guide to choosing a Pokémon product.
The cards collectors hunt
The guide to rarity explains the rarity levels, and a guide of its own covers the most expensive Pokémon cards. How to recognise a 1st Edition card is explained in the guide to old Pokémon cards, and how to find out what your own card is worth is shown in the guide to valuable Pokémon cards.
Playing Pokémon TCG
The Pokémon Company has organised the world championships in the card game since 2004. The guide to playing Pokémon describes which cards may be played in the Standard format.
