Japanese editions.Packs, boxes and special sets with Japanese Pokémon cards

The boxes and the special sets

Japanese special sets are often sold as a full box. Since September 2022, Japanese booster boxes are opened by tearing a perforated strip at the top, so a box that has been opened and resealed shows immediately. What a High Class Pack is, and how the Japanese sets relate to the English editions, is covered in the guide to English and Japanese cards.

Pokémon VS and the early Japanese cards

Pokémon VS from July 2001 was the first Japanese set with a 1st Edition print and with the international Pokémon card back instead of Pocket Monsters Card Game.
