Stickers and albums

Sticker collecting is its own area of the hobby, with its own rules. You buy an album with numbered spaces and then packs of stickers, and the goal is to fill the album. Unlike card collecting, the end goal is clearly defined: The album is either full or it is not. Panini has dominated the area since 1961, especially around the football World Cup and European Championship, but the licences have moved between publishers. The same model is used for films and series: Panini publishes albums for Marvel and Disney alongside football.

How it works

The album has one space per sticker, numbered in order and usually team by team. The packs normally contain five to eight random stickers from the whole series, and the carton with the packs is called a sticker box or display. You stick each sticker in its numbered space, and you swap the duplicates with other collectors until the album is full.

A complete album needs considerably more packs than there are spaces, because the share of duplicates rises the further into the collection you get. A tournament album often holds six hundred to seven hundred stickers, and the last fifty are the most expensive of all if you chase them in packs. Many collectors therefore buy a whole box and then complete the album by swapping or by ordering single stickers directly from the publisher, which most publishers offer with a limited number per order.

Panini FIFA World Cup Sticker Collection

First edition 1970

Panini has published stickers and albums for the football World Cup since 1970, and the collection for the 2026 World Cup – the first with 48 teams and three host countries – has 980 stickers. The album comes in both softcover and hardcover, and the foil stickers include the teams' emblems and the tournament's mascots. The international editions also include Extra Stickers with 20 star players, among them Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland. They have parallels in bronze, silver and gold, and on average one turns up in every 100 packs.

The most sought-after stickers are the Extra Stickers – special stickers with the tournament's biggest stars in parallels from bronze and silver up to gold. They were included in the albums for the 2022 and 2026 World Cups.

Panini FIFA 365 Sticker Collection

First edition 2015

FIFA 365 is Panini's series of collections about club football, and 2024-25 was the tenth season in a row. The 2026 edition has 524 stickers from 22 teams, 146 of them with special effects: stickers for key players and new signings, 18 Head-to-Head stickers with duels such as Legacy Battle and National Rivals, and twelve Elite stickers in four parallel colours – green, lava, purple and gold. The album has 64 pages, with a soft or hard cover, and includes stickers about the 2025 Club World Cup and posters of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup. A pack has five stickers, and the packs are also sold in an eco-blister and a multipack with eight packs, and in a display with 36 or 50 packs.

The most sought-after stickers are the Elite stickers in four parallel colours and the special stickers with effects, such as the Head-to-Head duels in the 2026 edition.

Topps UEFA Champions League Sticker Collection

First edition 2015

Topps has published the official Champions League sticker album every season since 2015/16. The 2025/26 edition has 574 stickers from 36 teams – 389 regular and 185 special stickers – in a 76-page album: 29 teams have a double-page spread with 14 stickers, and the seven teams from the qualifiers have one page with eleven portraits. The categories include Team of the Season, Historic Hat-Trick Heroes, Leading Legacies and Energy Legends, and 1st Sticker shows young players' debuts. Each portrait comes in four versions, of which Platinum exists in a single copy per player, and the 1st stickers have Chrome parallels from Refractor in 99 copies to SuperFractor in one. A pack has six stickers, and Jersey Relic Sticker Cards with shirt material are available for ten players in 200 copies.

The most sought-after stickers are the Platinum parallels in a single copy per player, the SuperFractor versions of the 1st stickers and the Jersey Relic Sticker Cards with shirt material.

Panini Avengers: Doomsday Worlds Collide

First edition 2026

Panini's collection for the film Avengers: Doomsday, which premieres in December 2026 with Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, is a hybrid of stickers and trading cards in the same pack, in Panini's album tradition: The softcover album has 32 pages, a poster and a starter sheet of six stickers. The film brings together the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men from different universes, and the collection's team cards divide the cast between the four teams, under each team's logo. The formats are a display with 36 packs, a starter pack, an eco-blister, a blister with an acrylic standee and a Mega Box, which holds ten packs, all five acrylic standees, a Limited Edition card and a Limited Edition card in XXL format.

The chase cards are the Limited Edition cards – one regular and one in XXL format in each Mega Box – and the five acrylic standees, all of which come in the Mega Box.

Topps Bundesliga Sticker Collection

Topps' Bundesliga album has stickers for the clubs in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga. The 2025/26 edition has 362 stickers: 15 per Bundesliga club – eleven portraits, a Monster Mentality sticker, Rising Star, Star Player and the club badge – and three per club in 2. Bundesliga – the club badge and two stickers with two players each. Other stickers include Goalies & Sentinels, Top Scorer & Matchwinner, two legends and Die Besten der Bundesliga. The parallels are numbered: Woven in 99 copies, Blizzard in ten and Gold in a single copy. A pack has seven stickers, the album has 56 pages and is for the first time also available in hardcover, and the Eco Pack has an extra pack with three glitter Monster Mentality stickers.

The most sought-after stickers are the Gold parallels in a single copy, the Blizzard parallels in ten copies and the glitter Monster Mentality stickers, which are only available in the Eco Pack.

Why some albums are valuable

A complete album from a tournament is rare in itself, and a player's first sticker works in the same way as a rookie card in sports – the hobby's own way of marking an early moment in a career. But condition decides everything: The stickers must be straight, the album must be intact and nothing may be loose. That is precisely why complete albums in fine condition are unusual – most were filled by children, which is the whole point of them and also the reason few have survived. Unopened boxes from older tournaments are among the most sought-after sealed items in the hobby; read more about that market in the guide to old sealed boxes.

Collecting without destroying the value

If you stick the stickers in, you have a filled album, and that is the most common and entirely legitimate way to collect. If you want to keep the value of individual expensive stickers, however, do not stick them in – keep them in penny sleeves or binder pages. An unopened pack keeps all of its rarity, while an opened pack only has the stickers that happened to be in that particular pack. Otherwise the same physics applies as for cards: Stickers fade in sunlight and glue dries over time, so store the album upright and not lying flat under other things.

Adrenalyn XL and the card games

Panini also makes Adrenalyn XL, which consists of cards rather than stickers and can also be played as a game. Topps' equivalents are called Match Attax for football and Turbo Attax for Formula 1. They are sold in the same channels as the stickers but are a different product, with their own rarity levels and playable values printed on the cards. It is easy to confuse a sticker series with the card series from the same tournament, and that leads you to compare two prices that do not belong together.

How to fill an album

  1. Buy the album first. It shows how many stickers the series contains.
  2. Buy packs and sort them straight away: one in the album, the duplicates in a pile.
  3. Write a list of the numbers you are missing.
  4. Swap duplicates with other collectors. It is faster and cheaper than buying more packs.
  5. Buy the last numbers individually. Opening packs for the last twenty is the most expensive way of all.

The mistakes are the opposite steps. Sticking in all the stickers straight away, duplicates included. Throwing away the duplicates, which are your currency for swapping. Storing the album lying flat under other books so that the pages bulge. And opening packs right to the end instead of buying the last numbers.

What to buy

If you are filling an album with children, a starter pack plus packs as you go is the right choice, and expect to swap. If the album is to be filled seriously, buy a whole box and complete the last part by swapping. If you collect for value, an unopened box or a complete album in fine condition is what you want. If you want to play, choose Adrenalyn XL, Match Attax or Turbo Attax. And if it is to be a gift, the starter pack with an album and a few packs is the simplest present.

Frequently asked questions

  • How many packs do you need for a full album? Considerably more than the number of spaces. Expect duplicates.
  • Can you order missing stickers? The publisher often offers this, with a limited number per order.
  • Does sticking them in lower the value? A filled album has value of its own. Individual expensive stickers should not be stuck in, however.
  • Are old albums valuable? Complete albums from major tournaments can be, in fine condition.
  • Are Adrenalyn XL stickers? No, they are cards with game values.
