The Disney Lorcana sets: the numbering and what each set adds

Disney Lorcana has released sets at a steady pace since its launch in 2023. The sets are numbered in sequence, and every card carries the set number, a card number and an ink colour marking. Together the three identify the card, which is what you need when you want to buy a specific card instead of hunting for it in packs. The foil version shares its number with the base card.

New sets are released continuously and the numbering keeps going up, so the list above names the sets that have had time to establish themselves rather than everything that exists. What you can actually buy is listed in the Lorcana category.

The First Chapter

1 · August 2023

Lorcana's first set, released in August 2023, introduced the Great Illuminary and the Illumineers who use magical ink to create glimmers of Disney characters. Even here there were twelve Enchanted cards, two per ink colour, with borderless art and rainbow foil, along with the first twelve Floodborn characters. The set was released with three starter decks: Amber/Amethyst, Emerald/Ruby and Sapphire/Steel.

The chase card is Elsa – Spirit of Winter in Enchanted.

Rise of the Floodborn

2 · November 2023

The set opens with an explosion in the Great Illuminary that sends ink flooding through the halls, and it is about the Floodborn characters, who number 27 here against twelve in The First Chapter. The keyword Resist was introduced in the set, and Goofy – Knight for a Day, with an ink cost of 9 and strength and willpower of 10, became the set's biggest card. Starter decks were released in Amber/Sapphire and Amethyst/Steel.

The chase cards are Cinderella – Ballroom Sensation and Sisu – Divine Water Dragon, both in Enchanted.

Into the Inklands

3 · February 2024

Into the Inklands introduced the Locations card type and has 22 of these location cards. In the story, the flood has washed lore far into the Inklands, and the Illumineers set out into the unknown parts of the realm to find what has been lost. The gift set box had Stitch – Covert Agent and Tinker Bell – Very Clever Fairy, and starter decks were released in Ruby/Sapphire and Amber/Emerald.

The chase card is Mickey Mouse – Trumpeter in Enchanted.

You can find the set's products under Into the Inklands.

Ursula's Return

4 · May 2024

The story is about an Ursula glimmer that has been released from the Great Illuminary and wants to seize power over Lorcana. The set introduced Sing Together and Shift with an alternative cost, where cards such as Diablo – Devoted Herald can be shifted by discarding cards instead of paying ink. Encanto appeared for the first time, and the co-op game Illumineer's Quest: Deep Trouble, in which players face Ursula together, was released the same day.

The chase card is Ariel – Sonic Warrior in Enchanted.

Shimmering Skies

5 · August 2024

The set takes place during a celebration at the Great Illuminary, where Wreck-It Ralph and his friends from Litwak's Arcade make their entrance together with Anna, Elsa and Olaf, straight from their adventure in the Enchanted Forest. Brother Bear appeared for the first time, and Legendary cards got raised texture on parts of the art for the first time. Starter decks were released in Amethyst/Ruby and Emerald/Steel.

The chase card is Mufasa – Ruler of Pride Rock in Enchanted.

Azurite Sea

6 · November 2024

A set with a seafaring and pirate theme, where players follow an old map out across the Azurite Sea. Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers and Big Hero 6 appeared for the first time, including Baymax – Armored Companion. Starter decks were released in Amber/Ruby and Emerald/Sapphire.

The chase card is Tigger – In the Crow's Nest in Enchanted.

Archazia's Island

7 · March 2025

Archazia's Island introduced the first dual-ink cards, such as Belle – Mechanic Extraordinaire and Bolt – Superdog, and the keyword Vanish. The story takes place on an island full of pets that hides an old secret, and Bolt, The Aristocats and Lady and the Tramp appeared for the first time. Each pack contains one of twenty lore cards.

The chase card is Tamatoa – Happy as a Clam in Enchanted.

Reign of Jafar

8 · May 2025

A Jafar glimmer has forged the Hexwell Crown back together, taken over Archazia's Island and turned it into his fortress, and the set concludes the game's second major storyline. Illusions are ghostly creatures created by Jafar, among them Abu – Illusory Pachyderm and Magic Carpet – Phantom Rug, and the set has more dual-ink cards. The co-op game Illumineer's Quest: Palace Heist, in which players must overthrow Jafar, was released the same day.

The chase card is Rapunzel – High Climber in Enchanted.

Fabled

9 · September 2025

More than three quarters of Fabled consists of reprints from earlier sets, and it has only 33 new cards. The set introduced the rarities Epic, which sits between Legendary and Enchanted, and Iconic, the rarest of all, and the Enchanted cards got a new rainbow foil. When Fabled was released, the first four sets rotated out of the competitive format that uses rotation, and A Goofy Movie appeared for the first time.

The chase cards are the first two Iconic cards ever, Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Prince and Minnie Mouse – Sweetheart Princess.

Whispers in the Well

10 · November 2025

A set of mysteries and detective work, where Whispers, a new kind of incomplete glimmers summoned from torn pages of Lorebooks, roam the Inkwell Caverns. The keyword Boost was introduced and makes Whispers stronger, and Gargoyles appeared for the first time. Each pack contains one of eighteen notes that belong to the story, and starter decks were released in Amber/Emerald and Sapphire/Steel.

The chase cards are the Iconic pair Ariel – Ethereal Voice and Hades – Looking for a Deal.

Winterspell

11 · February 2026

Winterspell begins the story of the Vine, a mysterious vine growing in the Inklands; when an Elsa glimmer tries to stop it, she causes a winter storm across the realm. Pocahontas, Darkwing Duck and Lilo & Stitch: The Series appeared for the first time, and the set also has characters from Mickey's Christmas Carol. The new classifications Giant, Ghost and Super were introduced in the set.

The chase cards are the Iconic pair Pocahontas – Peacekeeper and Moana – Curious Explorer.

Wilds Unknown

12 · May 2026

Wilds Unknown brought Pixar into Lorcana, with characters from Toy Story, The Incredibles and Brave who must make their way home through dangerous terrain. The Enchanted cards are drawn in the Lore Nouveau style, and the same style is used for the set's two Iconic cards, Buzz Lightyear – Jungle Ranger and Merida – Formidable Archer. The set introduced the 2-Player Starter Set, with the decks Amber/Emerald and Amethyst/Ruby, which replaced the earlier single-player starter decks.

The chase cards are the set's two Iconic cards, Buzz Lightyear – Jungle Ranger and Merida – Formidable Archer, drawn in the Lore Nouveau style and the rarest cards in the set.

Attack of the Vine!

13 · July 2026

The Vine has grown completely out of control and captures glimmers, which it copies into leafy Vinelings. The set has the first character cards with two characters together, such as Woody & Buzz Lightyear – Best Buddies, with the new classification Team and new ways to shift such as Duo Shift and Temporary Shift. The Pixar films Turning Red and Up were added, as was Monsters, Inc. The Enchanted and Iconic cards are drawn as film posters.

The chase cards are the Iconic pair Lilo & Stitch – Fun-Loving Friends and Belle & Beast – Certain as the Sun, along with the Enchanted card Winnie the Pooh and Piglet – Hunny Mages.

Hyperia City

14 · October 2026

Hyperia City is a new city where big city meets fairy-tale world. It introduces ink drops, a new energy source that gives one ink to use once, and Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia investigate where they come from. Coco makes its Lorcana debut, with cards that reward you for remembering earlier glimmers.

The chase cards are the Iconic pair Mickey Mouse – Best in Town and Cinderella – Unintentional Icon.

Into the Inkdark

15 · February 2027

A set where the villains step out of the shadows. Into the Inkdark is the first set with collector boosters, where every card is a foil and the chance of Enchanted and Iconic is higher than in regular packs. Only in collector boosters will you find the Illustrious rarity, Lorcana's first numbered cards, six per set and printed in 23 copies each, such as Maleficent – Biding Her Time.

The chase card is the Illustrious rarity, individually numbered in 23 copies per card, for example Maleficent – Biding Her Time.

How to read the card

The set number is in the bottom left. Next to it is the card number, written as 42 of 204, and in the bottom centre there is a rarity symbol. The card's ink colour shows in the field behind the name, and the ring around the cost in the top corner means the card can be put into your inkwell. The diamond symbols show the lore value, meaning how much the card earns when it quests, and the numbers to the right of the name are strength and willpower, used in challenges.

A set holds just over two hundred cards in the base numbering, packs contain twelve cards and a display twenty-four packs. Even so, a full display is not enough for a complete set, which is the most common miscalculation among new collectors.

Why the early sets cost more

The reasons are connected and pull in the same direction. Demand far exceeded supply at launch, and the first sets were printed in much smaller volumes than the ones that came later. On top of that, the top rarity tier was scarcer at the start, and the Disney characters attract collectors who never play the game. The price gap has therefore held rather than evening out.

The rarity tiers

CommonCommon card
UncommonUncommon
RareRare
Super rareThe step above rare
LegendaryHighest regular tier
EnchantedFoil across the whole card and its own illustration. This is what drives prices.
Epic, iconicLater-added tiers with their own treatment

Enchanted cards are printed in such low volume that most collectors buy them as singles instead of hunting for them in packs. One thing is worth saying about them: in play they are exactly as strong as the original, just printed differently.

What each set adds

A new set opens up new Disney worlds and characters, expands the rules with new keywords and brings in new enchanted artwork. Starter decks at the same time present new pairs of ink colours, and in practice that is how new colour combinations are introduced to players. The card types have also expanded since the start: locations were added along the way and are not in the oldest sets.

Collecting a full set

Count on just over two hundred cards in the base numbering, and do not count on a display getting you there. Trade duplicates with other collectors instead of buying more packs: it is both faster and cheaper, and towards the end a display almost always gives more duplicates than new cards. Starter decks guarantee certain cards and are often the cheapest way to get those particular cards. If you are chasing an enchanted card, the answer is almost always to buy the card, not the packs: the pack odds are low enough that a display on average costs more than the card.

If you want to learn to play, a starter deck is the right way in. If you just want to try a set, a pack or a gift set is enough. If you are collecting, the display gives the most cards for the money, and Illumineer's Trove gives you both cards and storage in the same box.

Mistakes that cost money

The most common is buying a starter deck and thinking it contains all the colours: it contains two. The second most common is comparing the price per display between shops instead of per pack, which makes different display sizes look further apart than they are. And the most expensive is opening a display in pursuit of a specific card. Also, keep your cards in sleeves from the start; Lorcana's foil cards scratch easily, and a scratched enchanted card loses most of its value.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I have to buy every set? No. If you play, the latest ones are enough; if you collect, choose by artwork.
  • Does the format rotate? The game has formats both with and without rotation.
  • Why is First Chapter the most expensive? Smallest print run and the greatest demand after the fact.
  • Which languages are the cards printed in? Ravensburger publishes Disney Lorcana in English, German, French and Italian, and there are also Japanese and Chinese editions.
